The CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute

Where research‑minded teachers and artist‑driven singers come to grow.

Registration is now open for the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute, a summer intensive designed for voice professionals who want to deepen their understanding of teaching commercial and musical theatre styles through hands‑on application, cutting‑edge pedagogy, and a collaborative community unlike any other.

Our participants come from conservatories, universities, studios, and stages around the world. Many hold advanced degrees; all share a common thread—a curiosity about how the voice works and a passion for helping singers express the human experience through song.

A Freshly Updated Curriculum

This year, we’re excited to unveil a revised curriculum that further strengthens our commitment to artist driven, research informed, human centered teaching.

Our flipped classroom model gives you time to absorb core concepts at home through online modules. When you arrive on campus, you will be ready to explore, apply, and experiment.

Hands‑On Learning That Sticks

On campus you will work side‑by‑side with faculty and fellow teachers as you learn to:

  • Apply principles of respiration and structure in real time

  • Coordinate the larynx and vocal tract quickly and precisely

  • Build and adapt exercises for each singer’s individual needs

  • Teach stylistically authentic mix and belt techniques

  • Protect vocal health and enhance artistry with a cultural awareness that elevates the human experience

  • Use a template designed to accelerate student learning and produce lasting results

Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

Robert Edwin

RE headshot black shirt.jpg

Robert Edwin is a pioneer of CCM Voice Pedagogy. His Bach to Rock column was the first of its kind dedicated to non-classical styles in the Journal of Singing. He spent decades advocating for musical theatre and commercial voice pedagogy to be taken seriously in academia and our professional organizations laying the groundwork for institutes like our own. Join us this summer to hear his perspectives on where we've come from and where we are headed as we continue to advance our profession to meet the needs of singers in the 21st century.

"CCM Institute courses are the most applicable and practical courses I have attended for today's singing teacher's needs. The faculty are genuinely interested in helping teachers and students get more out of the courses and the experience than expected, even one-on-one assistance when needed. I'll be returning as often as possible!

Suzanne Stone

"Every voice teacher needs to take the courses offered by the CCM Institute to stay current and fresh in their teaching style and pedagogy. The faculty are brilliant teachers and researchers."

"The collective wisdom of the CCM Institute is incredible. Even online, the camaraderie and hospitality was readily apparent. I am looking forward to attending again, and confident that the CCM staff can make it a valuable experience in any format!"
